Choose Life

This past weekend saw and celebrated the most important event in the Christian world; the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The account of this event never ceases to move me.

Did you know this event was foretold in the book of Isaiah more than 700 years before it happened?  The entire sordid and graphic event is recorded in this book and it’s not pretty. But then, death is not pretty – ever. Read the chapters for yourself: Isaiah 52 and 53.

We needed the sacrifice that Jesus made so that we may one day have eternal life with The Father. Jesus was the propitiation for our sins, and now sits at the right hand of the Father constantly interceding on our behalf.

I attended an Easter play this weekend with many of my family members. The church rehearsed for several months and then offered three performances. I saw two of them.  The basic story, of course, never changes – the story in this case begins in the garden with Adam and Eve and finishes with the Risen Savior. In addition to the biblical reenactments, the play also dramatizes current events and challenges that we all face today; peer pressure, drugs, alcoholism, financial stress or death of a loved one.

The scriptural message reminds us that He is always with us. Hebrews 13:5 reads, “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”  That’s crystal clear.

The Easter story is consistent and salvation is there for whomever will accept it. There is no charge, no cost, and you need NO ONE to go to the Father for you. Jesus already did that.

On the cross before he died, Jesus cried out, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”  The same is true for us today.  We sin and Jesus still petitions the Father to forgive us when we accept His sacrifice. But, make no mistake. There is NO other way to heaven – to eternal life. In John 14:6, we read, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”  No amount of money, no amount of good works, no cute little statue or large gaudy presentation will open the doors of Heaven. ONLY Jesus has made a way.

Won’t you please stop now wherever you are and whatever you’re doing and go to the Father with these simple words:

Dear Lord, I know I have sinned and I ask you to forgive me. I believe that Jesus died, was buried and rose again on the third day, and became sin, so that I may have eternal life with You. Thank you for what you did for me, Jesus, and I now ask you to be my Lord and Savior.  Amen.

If you prayed that prayer in Faith, believing, you’re a Christian.

Easter isn’t an annual event! It’s a life event, and I pray you choose Life.

FROM RAGS to _____________ ?

Was your first thought RICHES?  That old adage is not what I’m thinking.  I’m pondering crocheted rag rugs, and scrappy quilts, and crazy quilts.  What you may see as ‘rags’, I see as projects.

What you may see as a worn out woman or a sin-riddled person, imagine a Bible Teacher, Godly Preacher, Inspired Speaker, Healthy Life Director, Fitness Princess or a Christian Author? The list can go on and on, and why not?

Have you heard it said that God doesn’t “call the qualified, rather He qualifies the called?”

Peter was just a blue-collar fisherman.  Paul was a well-educated Roman who persecuted Christians. Timothy was just a young whippersnapper. And Thomas!! Well, Thomas doubted Jesus was The Christ.  And God wants these guys to spread the word about His Son who is the way to Grace through Faith and eternal life?

Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote 14 of the 27 books of the New Testament. Peter was the first one to realize, understand and acknowledge that Jesus was The Christ, the Son of the Living God.

What of the woman at the well? In John 4:7 “There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.”  And verse 9 “Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.”

You see, this woman had five husbands. Scandalous!! Can’t you hear all the ‘little old ladies’ tittering and the ‘self-righteous’ Pharisees going into cardiac arrest because Jesus was talking to this tainted woman? And yet, her story, probably more than any other,  has inspired countless broken women to realize just how much God truly loves and values them.

Are you afraid you can’t go on? God says in II Corinthians 12:9, “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

You can’t manage? God says in Philippians 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

YOU fill in the blank: Rags to ______________________.

Dear Heavenly Father, right now, please bless the person who is reading this devotion. Make him aware of what a kind and loving God you are. Let her know   that you are Abba Father – our Daddy, and creator of the universe. And finally, Lord, convince this person that your Son gave all He had that we may all have eternal life. Amen

Have You Been Thrown Away? Fear Not!

Many years ago, I saw a television show starring Tony Franciosa. His character was a handsome, private detective who often got into serious trouble. In one episode, he messed with the wrong people and after a sound beating, landed in a dumpster.  When his character came to, his line that I will never forget was, “I’ve been thrown away.”

Have you ever felt this way? Perhaps felt as though no one loved you? Maybe a relationship has gone sour and you felt tossed aside? Maybe life in general is just hard!  I have good news for you.

God will never leave you or forsake you.  It’s true!  In Hebrews 13:5b, we read, “for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”  The Message translation reads like this: “Since God assured us, ‘I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,’ we can boldly quote.”
If ever there were a good promise, this is one! You can take it to the bank!

How many times have you wondered to yourself, “God, are you there?” Or have you just asked out loud, “Where are you God?”  STOP! Stop and listen.

Personally, I don’t ask God rhetorical questions.  When I ask Him something, it’s because I want an answer. Okay, so He hasn’t yet explained where all the dinosaurs went, or if there ever were such a thing as a unicorn.   And He hasn’t EVER told me who will win the World Series, but He does respond to the important things in life.

There is so much pain and suffering in the world and I surely don’t have all the answers, but I do know Who does .. every time .. all the time.

When Moses was about one-hundred and twenty years old, his time was almost up; he would not lead Israel into the Promised Land.  Moses wanted to make sure the Israelites were ready to go in with Joshua.  In the Old Testament in the book of Deuteronomy 31:6, Moses told his people, “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”

After the death of Moses, the Lord God spoke to Joshua and told him to take the people and cross over the Jordan into the land He had given them. And yet again, God promised in Joshua 1:5 “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”

Do you see what God is telling His people?  He is saying that He will never leave us or forsake us and He is telling us to FEAR NOT.

Over and over in the scriptures we are reminded that He is with us.  Why, the Old Testament prophet told us that Jesus would be named Immanuel in Isaiah 7:14, and Matthew quoted that scripture in chapter 1 and verse 23: “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

Jesus’ name tells us He is with us.

These are promises we can grab for ours and hold onto.

I’ve heard it said there are over 365 “fear nots” in the bible; some go on to say that is one for every day of the year. I’ve not counted them, but if there are so many, it’s a foregone conclusion that to fear not must be important.

Moms and Dads tell their little ones not to be afraid of the dark or the storm because “I am here and I won’t go off and leave you.”

This is exactly what God is saying to His people.
Fear not, for I am with you. I will never leave you or forsake you.

Take these Words and make them yours.

When the world is coming down on you, the bills are piling up, you see no hope and no way out . . . you might want to pray something like this:

Dear Lord, Your Word says that you will never leave me or forsake me.  Right now, I stand on your word, I claim your word that tells me to fear not, for You are with me.  Thank you, Father for your love and mercy, and it’s in your Son’s name I pray, Amen.

And then, wait upon the Lord.

Chocolate or Calico

Vegetable Soup, A Crazy Quilt, Trail Mix, United States of America, Smorgasbord; what do all of these have in common?

Each one requires a number of different things to make the whole or the sum.

Take vegetable soup, for instance. It’s made up of a variety of vegetables, including potatoes, onions, carrots, tomatoes and celery and maybe even a beef soup bone. It is slowly simmered in liquid, salted and peppered, and after a few hours, it becomes soup. Each one of the ingredients is good by itself, but all together they create a hearty and savory winter meal.

Then, imagine a quilt; in particular, a crazy-patch-quilt. You can choose colors from blue, red, pink, yellow, green and maybe even some orange or purple; lovely cotton fabrics in solids or pretty little prints, calicoes and checks.  Each is lovely. All put together with tiny and careful, perfect stitches and an heirloom has been created.

And Trail Mix. Well, that one is easy. Trail mix is generally a collection of dried fruit and a lot of nuts. No further explanation is needed here beyond recognizing the sweet fruits and the salty nuts!  Sounds like a family to me!

Now, look to the United States. We are fifty separately-bordered communities called States.  We have people from every walk of life, nationality, color, size and shape. Most of us speak “English”, and yet we don’t. We have accents and diction and crazy-speak and trash-talk. We have deserts and beaches, frigid conditions and sunny skies, mountains and sand dunes, prairies and dense forests. But the sum of all the parts makes up this land of the free and the home of the brave!

If life gives you lemons, make lemon-aide. It life hands you scraps, make quilts.  These aren’t original, but they are good lessons.

The Scriptures teach us ‘to come out of the world’ and yet ‘forsake not the assembling of yourselves’.  Read Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.  And in Hebrews, 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Our Christian gatherings are these smorgasbords of many parts. The Church isn’t a building or a fancy cathedral. The Church is the Body of Christ; the body or collection of believers. We are black and white, brown and yellow, red and tan. We are rich and poor and we are male and female.

No one, no not one of us, is perfect, yet together we make up an amazing force.

Have you ever made a chocolate cake? Your basic recipe calls for cocoa, eggs, oil, liquid, salt, baking powder, vanilla and flour. Now, if you make this cake with only 2 teaspoons of flour, it’s going to be a soupy mess! If you leave out the baking powder, the cake will be flat and with no cocoa, your cake won’t be chocolate.  However, all of these ingredients in appropriate portions make a scrumptious dessert.

The church is the sum of its parts. Not soupy or flat or flavorless. The church needs all of its parts to function as a whole. It needs all the cotton fabrics of every shape and design, every color under the sun. The church is made of all these differences; potatoes and carrots, calicoes and solids, chocolate and flour.

With all these differences, we still are one body; Jesus calls unto all of us. Listen, can you hear Him? He’s calling out in Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”  So very simply, The Message tells us, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

“From Russia with Love” conjures up many images, such as James Bond played by Sean Connery or M16, or SPECTRE or Dr. No.  You’re not alone with this piece of mind-painting on an imaginary canvass.

However, that’s not where we’re going, nor are we off to the Winter Olympics or to see Vladimir Putin.  We’re serving tea!

Back in the late ‘60’s, I discovered a recipe for what was then called Russian Tea. Anyone who ever came to my home was introduced to ‘my’ tea.  Over time, I adjusted the recipe with a bit of this and a dab of that to make it mine.  One of my nieces asked if I could make it decaf and I did.  What an excellent suggestion that was.

To this very day, I give gifts of the tea in plain plastic bags or pretty containers or even glass jars. I like to present a bride-to-be with ‘my tea’ and 2 mugs for the newlyweds to enjoy; in the winter, I include my special Hot Cocoa mix (but that’s a different story for another day).

A few years ago, I gave some of my ‘Spiced Tea’ (as I had begun to call it) to a sweet friend whom I knew at my church.  One day, the lovely Sabrina sent me a note referring to the tea she was now calling her Serenity. Time for another name change; I now call it SereniTea©.  But that’s not the end of the story.

Not only did Sabrina love my tea, but she shared it with her cousin, Bryant who was in the Military serving in Iraq.  Sabrina says, “Although Bryant is now retired, he still loves the tea and he wants more.”

There are many ways to ‘love your brother’, and I liked the way Sabrina showed her cousin the love of Christ half way around the world by sharing her tea.

Thank you, Bible Gate Way* for making the Scriptures so readily available, like this one from The Message:1 Peter 4L8-11  Everything in the world is about to be wrapped up, so take nothing for granted. Stay wide-awake in prayer. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless—cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help. That way, God’s bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he’ll get all the credit as the One mighty in everything—encores to the end of time. Oh, yes!”

Loving your neighbor and showing hospitality can be as simple as a cup of tea or sending a gift off to a faraway land, but do it!  You never know who might show up at your door, as Paul tells us in Hebrews 13:2, Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”

Are There Worms in Your Apples?

O.M.G.  She’s so ugly. Man, he’s really way too loud. And those teeth; did he buy them at the Halloween store? Have you ever heard any of these things? We really hoped for a boy this time, but it’s another girl. You’re too skinny. You’re too pale, or too black or too smart or too stupid. Have you believed any one these things all your life and now wonder why you have no self esteem?

Life tells us to suck it up! Get over it! Deal! There’s a little ditty that I grew up with, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” Yeah, that’s another lie from the pit. Do you know why? Because, words do hurt.

Don’t take my word for it. Go back to the bible. God spoke the world into existence. The first chapter of the book of Genesis is full of phrases such as, “And God said” or “and God called.” When Jesus was in the wilderness, I’ve no doubt that He could have smacked the devil “upside the head’’, and been done with him, but no, He spoke The Word to the serpent. He said, “it is written”. Words. Spoken. Life giving words. Or Life taking words.

Scripture teaches us in Romans 10:17, “so then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Read and study the Bible. Then, use what you learn in the Bible. Speak it so you can hear it.

Have you heard of self-fulfilling prophecy? Or, shot himself in the foot? It can happen. Our words really are very powerful. You can talk yourself into something you may not want.

Conversely, have you ever come upon a total stranger, complimented that person on a hairdo, or a coat or the shoes? Did you see her face light up?

My firstborn son was given a brand new bike when he was 5, but he couldn’t ride it. After a few tries, he gave up, but he informed me that when he turned 6 he would ride it. And he did. The morning he turned 6, he got on the 2 wheeler and rode!

Sticks and stones can break your bones? I’ve never actually broken a bone, but my soul has been stepped on, mangled and twisted. Words DO hurt.

The minute you hear something hurtful, stop! That’s right, Stop. That. Very. Minute. Remind yourself OUT LOUD just who you really are.

Do you know who you are?

You’re a King’s kid. Galatians 3:26 tells us, “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

Your Big Brother sits at the right hand of Almighty God. In Hebrews 1:3, you can read, “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

You are chosen by the Father. Read it in Ephesians 1:4 “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.”

You’re the head and not the tail, you’re more than a conqueror, you’re complete in Christ and you are righteous and holy. These are only a few of more than 100 scriptures that define who you are as a believer in Christ.

Speak out, but speak in love. “Say what you mean, mean what you say, but don’t say it mean.”

In Luke 6:45, Jesus said, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” The Message reads this way, ““You don’t get wormy apples off a healthy tree, nor good apples off a diseased tree. The health of the apple tells the health of the tree. You must begin with your own life-giving lives. It’s who you are, not what you say and do, that counts. Your true being brims over into true words and deeds.”

Ask God to remove those ugly words that have been spoken to you and then, the pain they caused. He will, you know.

I’m a King’s kid.

My big Brother sits at the right hand of God.

I am chosen by the Father.

Say it! Hear it! Believe it!

SMOKE and MIRRORs

It seems to me that God is on a mission to improve me.  Me, Catherine. It’s true!  Because God created me, He loves me just the way I am. However, He loves me too much to leave me the way I am.  I’m a willing subject; I’m not going kicking and scratching (at least not yet).  I’m not even holding on tightly to my pan of Applesauce Bars, the likes of which I can devour in two days!  Or Christie’s Chocolate Sheet Cake that might last maybe three days.  I’ve even avoided the two delicious, glazed original Krispy Kreme™ donuts when the *hot* light is on.

He and I have begun some new and exciting challenges in the beginning of the year 2014. I’ve discovered that not only does He listen to my innermost thoughts and my vocal prayers, He acts on them, in His perfect time.

I’ve never made any New Year’s resolutions, at least none that I recall.  I never saw the point. In my experience, no one I knew kept them, so why bother lying to myself?  If you make New Year’s resolutions, that’s great!  However, I’ve found myself doing some things differently.

God has an almost ‘magical’  way of listening to my prayers, then acting on them and implementing His Plan oh-so-gently.  These changes are not about vanity; they are all for my good, and include better and healthier eating choices and habits, goal setting and better time management. No! that’s a stretch. Delete “better”.. and simply write, Time Management.

I mentioned vanity.  I don’t believe there is anything wrong with wanting to look good, feel good and be happy.  These are innate behaviors among human beings. But there comes a point when the ridiculous just takes over.

Ecclesiastes 1:1-3 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?” The Message™ Bible refers to vanity as “Smoke! All smoke”. Another calls it futility!

How about Smoke and Mirrors? Now there’s a mouthful! Deception? Fraudulent? Misrepresentation? Dishonesty? These may be strong words, but are they true?  Think about the ads you see on television for: wrinkle reducer, bust augmentation, hair color, lift up, push out, squish in, rearrange, shave this, cut that. Smoke and mirrors. Vanity of vanities .. all is Vanity.  Thus spoke Solomon and he was counted the wisest of all.

I once knew a woman who got up early every morning before her husband to put on her makeup and fix her hair. He never ever saw her without her being perfectly groomed; she wouldn’t allow it.  I’ll be the first to acknowledge that I put my ‘best foot forward’ when meeting someone new or going out.  But, REALLY???  Not letting your husband see the real you? (No, the marriage didn’t last).

How does all of this relate in today’s world?  What can we do? I don’t think it’s all that difficult. Jesus taught, and we read in the book of Matthew 6:31-34  “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Paul spoke well of this, also, in Romans 12:2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that goodand acceptableand perfect, will of God.”

Here is the reality of a life in Christ. When all is said and done, John said is all too well in Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

Take out my name, Catherine, and replace it with yours.  Put YOUR name above in the scriptures and let God show you His perfect way. Please remember that His perfect way is from PURE love and NOT condemnation.  If you ever feel condemnation, run to the nearest exit! do not pass go! That is NOT the voice of God.

Smoke and Mirrors?  Or a life IN Christ? You decide.

And the Angels Might Laugh

Angels to the left of me, Angels to the right of me, into the Valley of … oh wait! That was “cannon to the left of them; cannon to the right of them, and into the Valley of death rode the 500!” AND, it’s already been written (Alfred, Lord Tennyson: Charge of the Light Brigade,” first published in 1854). Forgive me sir, I got carried away just thinking about angels.

I love all these little man-made angels that frolic throughout my home, including the magnetic ones on the fridge, made of seashells. I received some darling hand crafted angels from a friend for Christmas that I treasure.  I even have a “sewing angel” who flies above a spool of thread and buttons.   As I sit here at the keyboard, a clever angel flies on the wall above me. She’s made of raffia and perhaps some corn-husk with a fabric “dress” and in her arms is a ‘’bolt of fabric’’.  I think perhaps, my REAL angel looks a lot like that one. A little bit primitive and a whole lot country. Her raffia hair is ‘flying away and her arms tightly grasp that bolt.

I love angels; the real ones that are one of God’s most wondrous creations and those trinkets mentioned above. We refer to toddlers as little angels; of course, everyone knows that when we hear a bell ring, an angel gets its wings (smile).  Amy Grant sang about “Angels watching over me, every move I make”, there’s angelic behavior and who can forget, Touched by an Angel and “You Are My Special Angel” ♪♪… and all the angels that top out a Christmas tree and others that become delightful decorations.

However, let us not get carried away or form an entire doctrine about angels.  As sweet as it may sound to some, people do not become angels when they pass away; no, not even babies.  Angels were never created for us to worship; as a matter of fact, Angels were designed first to serve and glorify God and to do His bidding.  Hebrews 1:3–6 (The Message)  After he finished the sacrifice for sins, the Son took his honored place high in the heavens right alongside God, far higher than any angel in rank and rule. Did God ever say to an angel, “You’re my Son; today I celebrate you” or “I’m his Father, he’s my Son”? When he presents his honored Son to the world, he says, “All angels must worship him.”

When Jesus was born, the heavenly host rejoiced!  (KJV) Luke 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

An angel spoke to Mary and to Joseph of their upcoming blessed event.

An angel told Abraham that he would be the father of Genesis 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. Genesis 17:17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? And shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

An angel told Sarah (who was older than dirt by the way), that she would have a baby, and Sarah laughed.   Genesis 18:12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, after I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

They both laughed!!! Genesis 17:19, And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

God’s sense of humor and how He delights in all He does shows up here; the name that God chose for Isaac means LAUGHTER!

Perhaps your angel “is missing a few feathers” from too many near-misses while driving, maybe he’s well educated and sophisticated, or maybe she’s like mine, and all kinds of country. Give all glory and honor to God that He has created these beings but please, give thanks to and worship The Creator, Himself, not what He created.

Super Hero

Super Heroes, Marvel Comics, Television and the Big Screen: Did you grow up with The Lone Ranger, Hop-along Cassidy, Gene Autry and my favorite, Roy Rogers?  These cowboys were my super heroes and they always got the bad guy! They always did the right thing at the right time for all of the right reasons. They were made-up heroes, but their values and codes of conducts were not fictitious.

Today, we have Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Ironman and all the guys from Star Wars and Star Trek, just to name a few. These characters take care of the world on-screen, always doing the right thing at the right time.

Did you ever wish for a Superhero in real life?  We do have just such a Super Hero; His name is above all names! His name is Jesus!

Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.

He is wonderful, counselor, mighty God!  And, His appearance was prophesied more than 500 years before He was actually born.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Are you afraid of the dark? He is the Light of the world!

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

He can walk through buildings.

John 20: 26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

And, he can walk on water!

Matthew 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

He heals the sick.

Matthew 8:13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

And raises the dead!

John 11:14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead … 43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

And he’s rich too!

Psalm 50:10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

Some kind of hero, don’t you think?  He is all of this and so much more.  He is your Lord, your Father and your Savior. Go quickly, run now to your father; He’s waiting for you.  Call on Him, Abba Father (Daddy!).

One of the most misquoted verses in the Old Testament is, “Money is the root of all evil.” Hopefully, YOU know the correct verbiage is, “The LOVE of money is the root of all evil.” See 1 Timothy 6:9-11 (KJV) “9 but they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 for the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.”  Putting anything or anyone above or loving it more than God is evil, and this evil is often portrayed in money. Exodus 20:3 (KJV) “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

At least once a day, I check the spam folder in my email. Sometimes, I even read the body just for entertainment. No, I do NOT click on any of the links; rather, I scan the subjects and the sender because occasionally an email that I do want lands in that place.

Reading through some of these and the names of the senders themselves just cracks me up. Whether they know it or not, they’re sending me free entertainment. Here are some that I’ve found highly entertaining…LDSPlanet.com: about dating. My limited knowledge of astronomy made me wonder where planet LDS is…then, BINGO … Oh! that LDS Planet… the one in Utah. Then there was the one from Lydia Fiqueroa (yes it was a ‘q’), regarding New Mmoortgage rates.  I don’t think I want to borrow money from someone who can’t spell. On any given day, I get spam emails from the FBI telling me that I have to respond immediately. Then there’s the scam-spam from the ‘old friend’ who got stuck in some foreign country and I must send him money so he can come home.  Or, I have won the zigggity-zillion lottery, so send a hundred dollars to cover their expenses of getting a cashier’s check for me. Just today, I got this one, copying exactly here: (subject line) First $6000.00 was sent today … Mrs. Mrs Juliet E John .. officefile63@cantv.net .

The thread that connects all of these spam-mails is money. Remember the old adage, “If it looks too good to be true, it probably is”? Therein lay the corruption.

How would you respond if any one of these emails were in your inbox?

There is nothing wrong with money and things when they are in balance. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:12, (KJV) “all things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient; all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”

Most likely, spam should be left where you find it (the original Spam™ even had a key to get into it and when it was opened, a ragged, sharp edge was left on can – makes me wonder).

Be prudent in life and be careful in whom you place your trust. Sure, some people will win the lottery and some may even inherit a windfall from a stranger, but don’t let these fantasies rule your life.

Rather than worship the created or the creature (stars, crystals, money, gold, silver, diamonds, rock stars, tea leaves and such), worship the Creator – the One who loves YOU, no matter what – the One Who created all.
